JAKARTA, October 5. /TASS/. The decision on whether Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok in November in person or virtually will be made closer to the event, Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the upper house of Russia’s parliament, said on Wednesday.
"We are grateful for the invitation extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Thailand for the next APEC summit in November. The decision on the format of the Russian president’s participation will be made closer to the date of the event," Matviyenko said at a meeting with her Thai counterpart, the president of Thailand’s National Assembly and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Chuan Leekpai on the sidelines of a G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit underway in Indonesia.
Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said earlier that his country expected Putin to attend the APEC summit slated for November 18-19 in Thailand.
