Kremlin closely follows events in Myanmar

On February 1, the Myanmar military declared a one-year long state of emergency and deposition of the country’s authorities

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Moscow is closely following the events in Myanmar and analyzes the situation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists Monday.

"Of course, we follow the situation closely and analyze the information," the spokesman said, adding that it is too early to make any preliminary assessments.

On February 1, the Myanmar military declared a one-year long state of emergency and deposition of the country’s authorities, justifying it by wide-scale falsifications during the November elections. About 30 people were apprehended, including President Win Myint and Foreign Minister Aun San Suu Kyi, whose party won during the recent elections and was about to begin form the government. The Internet in the country works with disruptions, while state TV channels have been shut down entirely.
