About 2,000 people evacuated from Russian city of Orsk amid flooding

More than 300 people, including 85 children, have been placed in temporary accommodation centers

ORENBURG, April 6. /TASS/. About 2,000 people have been evacuated from the Russian city of Orsk near the Ural Mountains amid flooding, the regional government told TASS.

More than 300 people, including 85 children, have been placed in temporary accommodation centers.

"About 2,000 people have been evacuated. That includes people that were removed by rescuers and those who evacuated on their own," a regional government spokeswoman said.

Earlier reports said about 711 people were evacuated, including 210 children.

The flooding happened after a dam near Orsk, a city near the Russian border with Kazakhstan, burst overnight into Saturday. Rising water from the Ural River flooded 2,400 homes, according to the latest data. The bodies of three people were found in the flooded area, but two of them weren’t killed by the emergency, officials said. The authorities declared a regional-level emergency situation and are urging residents to evacuate.
