Russia increases pipeline gas deliveries to Turkey by 4% in January

For the entirety of 2024, Russia increased its pipeline gas exports to Turkey by 2.6%, exceeding 21 bln cubic meters

MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. In January, Russia expanded its pipeline gas supplies to Turkey by 3.7%, reaching 2.78 bln cubic meters, according to TASS calculations based on Eurostat data.

Eurostat’s figures - largely consistent with the statistics provided by Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) - indicate that in January, Turkey imported a total of 2.781 bln cubic meters of Russian gas via the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, marking the third-highest volume in history.

For the entirety of 2024, Russia increased its pipeline gas exports to Turkey by 2.6%, exceeding 21 bln cubic meters. Taking into account liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, the total volume of Russian gas deliveries to Turkey surpassed 21.5 bln cubic meters.

Gazprom reported earlier that Turkey recorded an all-time high for monthly gas consumption in February, exceeding 8 bln cubic meters. Additionally, according to Gazprom’s estimates based on data from the Turkish Energy Exchange (EPIAS), gas consumption in Turkey between November and February reached record levels, surpassing 30 bln cubic meters. Statements from Botas, Turkey’s state energy company, further confirmed that the country twice set new daily gas consumption records in February, reaching 333.7 mln cubic meters.

Russia supplies natural gas to Turkey through two Black Sea pipelines. Blue Stream, operational since early 2003, has a design capacity of 16 bln cubic meters per year and spans 1,213 km. The TurkStream export pipeline, launched in January 2020, consists of two parallel lines - one dedicated to serving Turkish consumers and the other facilitating gas exports to Southern and Southeastern Europe. TurkStream’s total capacity is 31.5 bln cubic meters per year.

Earlier, TASS, citing data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG), reported that Russian gas deliveries to Europe via TurkStream surged by 23% in 2024, reaching 16.7 bln cubic meters. Moreover, in January-February 2025, Russia increased TurkStream gas exports by over 25% compared to the same period last year, reaching 3.1 bln cubic meters.
