Russia’s budget deficit preliminarily totals $17.8 bln in January — ministry

According to preliminary estimates, revenues increased by 11.4% to 2.67 trillion rubles ($27.8 bln) year-on-year, while federal budget expenditures soared by 73.6% in January 2025 to 4.38 trillion rubles ($45.6 bln)

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Russia’s federal budget deficit amounted to 1.71 trillion rubles ($17.8 bln) in January 2025, according to preliminary figures, the Finance Ministry reported.

"In January 2025, the federal budget ran a deficit in the amount of 1.706 trillion rubles. <…> This is largely due to forward expenditure financing inside the first quarter and it is not expected to affect the quarterly trajectory and the implementation of 2025 targeted structural balance parameters overall," the report said.

According to preliminary estimates, revenues increased by 11.4% to 2.67 trillion rubles ($27.8 bln) year-on-year, while federal budget expenditures soared by 73.6% in January 2025 to 4.38 trillion rubles ($45.6 bln).

In January 2024, Russia’s federal budget deficit amounted to 308 bln rubles.
