MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Protection of small and medium business is in conformity to achievement of sustainable development goals and an international institution on the UN base should be created to protect such entities, said special envoy of the Russian President Boris Titov, as his press service told TASS.
"The issue of protection of small and medium business deserves close attention. The efficient mechanism to protect rights of a hired employee exists at the UN level for a long time. However, there are no official international institutions fighting discrimination in respect of small businesses," Titov said at the UN Partnership Forum in New York.
Such effort can be implemented in two areas, the envoy said. "The first one is creation of a specialized international arbitration. The second one is to form a special institution for protection of rights of small and medium enterprises, which will have an opportunity to offer response measures against violations in respect of SME to the UN Secretary-General," Titov noted.
Geopolitical risks for small and medium business "should be minimized" for the sake of sustainable development interests, the envoy stressed. At the same time, violations of rights and interests of SME are observed across the globe from the side of governments and monopolies, from unilateral restrictive measures and cross-border barriers to discrimination by major companies and banks, Titov added.
