Video series to preserve Nenets language to be filmed in Taymyr

The idea has been supported by the Krasnoyarsk Region's Agency for Development of Northern Territories and Support for Indigenous Peoples

KRASNOYARSK, December 9. /TASS/. About 60 videos in the Nenets language will be filmed for the first time in the Krasnoyarsk Region's north to present to children the national culture, language, and traditional occupations, the project's author Natalia Sidorova told TASS.

"We plan to film in 2025 about 60 videos about the Nenets culture, language, traditional occupations, and sports. We are making the videos in Nenets with Russian subtitles, specifically for children and teenagers. Our idea has been supported by the Krasnoyarsk Region's Agency for Development of Northern Territories and Support for Indigenous Peoples, and they have allocated a grant to us," she said.

The project's main idea is to preserve the Nenets language and culture. "By this series of videos, it will be easier to tell children about their culture, about how the Nenets live - how they hunt, how they herd deer, where they live, about the national costume, national cuisine, etc. Children will learn about the Nenets culture from experts, well-known bloggers of Yamal, and from the tourism industry representatives," the project's author explained.

The videos will be available on Rutube and social networks.

Nenets belongs to a group of rare languages. It is widespread from the Kola Peninsula to the Krasnoyarsk Region. About 22,000 people speak the language. Linguists point to the language's poor distribution among children and teenagers.
