Hainan winter agricultural fair sees $637 mn worth of orders

The 27th China International Winter Trade Fair for Tropical Agricultural Products (also known as Hainan Winter Trade Fair) was held in the southern Chinese province of Hainan, which saw on-site orders worth 4.58 billion yuan ($637 million), Hainan Zhibao reported.

According to the newspaper, the four-day trade event, held in Haikou city, was attended by more than 170,000 people. They made purchases worth 38.22 million yuan ($5.3 million). There were also 11 agreements signed worth 980 million yuan ($136 million).

Russia was one of the countries participating in the Hainan Winter Fair, while Vietnam was this year's guest of honor. Other attending countries included Cambodia, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Georgia, Kenya, Laos, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, Singapore and Uganda. More than 50 representatives from international industry organizations also joined the event.

A variety of imported goods were displayed at the booths, including nuts, coffee, pepper, chocolate, tea, rice, butter, cheese and more. Foreign companies showed interest in local agricultural products and discussed issues related to Hainan Free Trade Port preferences and supply organization.

According to official estimates, the fair featured about 2,200 enterprises, thousands of types of agricultural products, including both fresh produce and processed semi-finished products. It featured demonstrations of drones and robots used for the needs of the agricultural sector.

The organizers also held more than 20 related events - brand demonstrations, investment dialogues, meetings to expand inter-regional market contacts, and tasting salons. Leading enterprises from China and other countries were invited to participate. As a result, the fair was able to expand the marketing channels for agricultural products and increase the awareness of Hainan's agricultural brands.
