Visa-free travel between Russia, Myanmar to be launched in early 2025 — ministry

Currently, the visa-free regime works unilaterally for Russian citizens coming to Myanmar, official Nikita Kondratyev explained

ST. PETERSBURG, December 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Economic Development Ministry expects the launch of visa-free travel between Russia and Myanmar in early 2025, head of the ministry’s Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects Nikita Kondratyev told reporters.

"Consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries are coming to an end. We hope that this process will end at the beginning of next year and the agreement will be signed," he said.

Currently, the visa-free regime works unilaterally for Russian citizens coming to Myanmar, the official explained. "However, our legislation suggests that for making sure that the visa-free regime works for them we have to sign a new bilateral visa abolition agreement," he added.

Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Than Swe said in an interview with TASS earlier that the country was prepared for the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Russia, which stipulates visa-free trips for citizens of the two countries.
