Turkey’s desire to be gas hub important for energy security — Russian official

Russia will continue developing pipe gas supplies and will "continue supplying competitive energy resources to partners and the whole world," Pavel Sorokin noted

ISTANBUL, November 22. /TASS/. Turkey’s plans to implement the project of building an international gas hub in its territory are important to provide for energy security, Russian First Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin said at the energy forum in Istanbul.

"The aspiration of Turkey to become the energy hub of the region is critical in supporting energy security," Sorokin said.

Russia will continue developing pipe gas supplies and will "continue supplying competitive energy resources to partners and the whole world," he noted. Western sanctions and the rise in energy prices partly prevent the energy transition, Sorokin said. "The priority should be the reduction of atmospheric emissions and support of the energy demand by a combination of low-carbon energy resources, which will eventually lead to achievement of climatic transition goals. Regrettably, we see how attempts are being made to restrain the desire of Global South countries to get access to gas resources but I believe economic pragmatism will prevail," Sorokin added.
