PARIS, March 1. /TASS/. The International Energy Agency (IEA) registered a record 37.4 bln tonnes of global carbon dioxide emissions from energy generation, according to the report published on the agency's website.
It was noted that in 2023 the figure increased by 410 mln tons. Meanwhile, emissions increased by 490 mln tons in 2022. According to IEA experts, the weakening of growth dynamics is associated with the expansion of the global use of nuclear power plants, solar panels, and wind power plants. At the same time, last year the volume of emissions could have reached even lower levels if the abnormally severe drought seen in several regions around the world had not affected the operation of hydroelectric power plants, the report said.
Earlier, the IEA published a forecast according to which global demand for coal, which leads to the largest carbon dioxide emissions, would decline by 2.6% by 2026.
