Adverse economic forecasts for 2023 not materializing — IMF

According to IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack, the inflation is coming down and the labor markets continue to be resilient

WASHINGTON, January 11. /TASS/. The most adverse forecasts for 2023 did not prove to be true, Spokesperson of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Julie Kozack said at a regular briefing for reporters.

"When we look at 2023, 2023 proved to be quite a resilient year for the global economy, more resilient than we had expected at the beginning of 2023. And if we look at some of the more pessimistic projections that were made at the beginning of 2023, a year ago, those did not materialize. So we've had a relatively resilient global economy so far, we expect that resilience to continue into 2024," Kozack stressed.

"At the same time, inflation is coming down. Labor markets continue to be resilient," she continued. "Of course, the news is not all good because this resilience is with growth hovering around 3% growth last year and over the medium term. That's much lower than previous kind of global average growth rates, which were about 3.8%," Kozack said.

"So we do have work to do to lift global growth, especially over the medium term," the IMF spokesperson added.
