North - South transport corridor in global economic interests — India’s foreign minister

The project goal is to bring transit freight traffic from India, Iran and Persian Gulf countries via the Russian territory to Europe

MOSCOW, December 27. /TASS/. The North - South transport corridor is in the interests of the entire global economy, India’s Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said at a press conference after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"It is in our interest and not just in our interest, I think in the interest of the global economy that this corridor progresses. And we will give it the highest priority," the Indian minister said.

Russia, India and Iran signed an intergovernmental agreement on creation of the North - south multimodal transport corridor in 2000. The number of participants expanded to fourteen later. The project goal is to bring transit freight traffic from India, Iran and Persian Gulf countries via the Russian territory to Europe.
