Voter turnout at Kazakhstan parliamentary elections exceeds 65% by late afternoon

The lowest turnout was reported in the country’s largest city of Almaty at 36.65%, and the largest in the Kyzylorda region at 81.38%, according to the CEC

The turnout in the elections of deputies of the Kurultai (unicameral parliament) of Kazakhstan was 65.37% by 4:00 p.m. local time (11:00 a.m.GMT), exceeding the figure of the previous parliamentary elections in 2023, Asel Zhanabilova, a member of the Central Election Committee (CEC), said on Sunday.

"As of 4 p.m., 8,240,336 voters in the country had received ballots, which is 65.37% of the number on the voting lists," she said at a news briefing.

The lowest turnout was reported in the country’s largest city of Almaty at 36.65%, and the largest in the Kyzylorda region at 81.38%, according to the CEC. The turnout in the country’s capital of Kazakhstan was reported at 46.38%.

Deputies are elected only from the party lists of seven parties. There is no threshold for turnout in parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan and they are considered valid regardless of the number of participated voters.
