Munich Conference may signify end to transatlantic relations — researcher

It means for Russia that the European Union, rather than the United States, is its main rival, German political researcher Alexander Rahr said

MUNICH, February 16. /TASS/. The Munich Security Conference this year may signify the end of transatlantic relations, German political researcher Alexander Rahr said on his Telegram channel.

"The Munich Security Conference 2025 may probably mean the end of transatlantic relations. Europeans that rendered obedience to Washington yesterday, are severing relations with the ‘older brother’ in words of their politicians," Rahr said. Europe, unlike the US, will not come to terms with the "deal" with Russia, he noted.

It means for Russia that the European Union, rather than the United States, is its main rival, the expert said. It is not a good idea for Berlin to give up its previous and successful mediating role between Russia and the West, he noted.

The European Union will take steps in coming days on the "divorce" with the US on the issue of relations with Russia, Rahr said. These steps may advance Europe on the way of creating its own army, separate from NATO, he added.

"Europe may face a split because of that. Furthermore, the issue of financing will arise," the expert noted.
