US grants 3-month exemption from sanctions on Gazprombank for Hungary — Orban

Hungary will now be in a relatively safe position for several months, the prime minister said

BUDAPEST, December 20. /TASS/. The United States made an exception for Hungary from sanctions on Gazprombank just for three months but Budapest already negotiated an alternative method of payment with Moscow, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a press conference during his visit to Bulgaria.

"We managed to come to terms with Americans that sanctions in respect of Gazprombank will be suspended for three months, so the danger was prevented, and we also negotiated an alternative method of paying for gas supplies with Russians," Orban said, cited by the MTI news agency.

Hungary will now be in a relatively safe position for several months, the prime minister said. He also noted that there should be no problems with Russian gas transit to Hungary via Bulgaria.
