MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Kiev is turning to attacking targets inside Russia as it becomes clear that victory on the battlefield is out of reach, Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), told the Guardian.
Given Russia’s military superiority and the Ukrainian side’s shortage of artillery shells and fighter jets, Kiev has "no choice" but to take the fight to targets deep behind enemy lines, the newspaper writes, citing Skibitsky. He mentioned that Russian infrastructure and industrial facilities are likely to be targeted.
Over the past few weeks, Ukrainian drones have carried out several attacks on civilian infrastructure facilities, including oil refineries in various Russian regions. In some cases, the attacks caused fires. Ukrainian media outlets reported, citing sources, that the country’s intelligence agencies were behind the attacks. Later, Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) chief Vasily Malyuk claimed responsibility for the strikes, noting that the SBU had previously hit targets such as the Crimean Bridge, Russian warships in the Black Sea, tanks, air defenses and electronic warfare systems, as well as oil refineries and other production sites working for the Russian defense industry.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian military was working to make it impossible for the Kiev regime to carry out attacks inside Russia.
