Venezuela-Russia cooperation aimed at countering economic sanctions — lawmaker

Roy Dasa noted that the visit to Venezuela by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shows that relations between Moscow and Caracas are developing not only in political terms, but also in other areas

CARACAS, February 22. /TASS/. Cooperation between Venezuela and Russia is aimed at countering economic sanctions, Permanent Commission on Foreign Policy, Sovereignty and Integration member and Venezuelan National Assembly (parliament) member Roy Dasa said on the Venezolana de Television TV channel.

"The political message of relations between Venezuela and Russia is very clear: Our countries are seeking to stop the blockade, which is a huge obstacle for both countries, and to overcome the economic sanctions that suffocate our peoples," he emphasized.

Dasa noted that the visit to Venezuela by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as part of his three-nation tour of Latin America, demonstrates Moscow's solidarity with Caracas, and shows that relations between Russia and Venezuela are developing not only in political terms, but also in other areas. "Our products in the Russian market are showing exponential growth. There is an exchange in scientific and technical spheres. Our students are studying in Russia, and Russian tourists are coming to Venezuela on vacation," the parliamentarian explained.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said after meeting with Lavrov on February 20 that Caracas and Moscow have achieved impressive results in cooperation, including in the agricultural sector.

Lavrov made a one-day visit to Venezuela on Tuesday, where he met with the president of the South American country, held talks at the Foreign Ministry and took part in the opening ceremony of a monument to Alexander Pushkin in the Venezuelan capital.
