Power facilities hit in eight regions — Ukraine’s prime minister

Denis Shmygal added that temporary power outages were possible in some areas

MOSCOW, March 9. /TASS/. Power generation and distribution facilities were damaged in eight regions of Ukraine, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Thursday.

"Generation and distribution facilities in eight regions have been damaged," he wrote on his Telegram channel. Shmygal added that temporary power outages were possible in some areas.

Last night, an air raid alert was announced throughout Ukraine. It lasted about five hours. Information about explosions was received from different cities and regions. The national energy company Ukrenergo reported that a number of energy infrastructure facilities had been damaged, and blackouts were introduced in the Zhytomir, Odessa and Kharkov regions. The Ukrainian energy holding company DTEK, for its part, reported serious damage to three thermoelectric power plants. President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting to discuss energy issues after the explosions, however, representatives of law enforcement agencies, including intelligence, and not the energy sector, were seen among the participants.

According to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, high accuracy weapons, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, carried out a retaliatory strike against targets in Ukraine in response to the terrorist attacks in the Bryansk region. He pointed out that as a result of a massive strike, the bases of attack drones were destroyed, the transportation of reserves and foreign weapons was disrupted, and industrial facilities for the repair of military equipment and the production of ammunition were disabled.
