Lukashenkо sees senselessness of non-aggression pact proposed by Kiev — Lavrov

At the end of January, Alexander Lukashenko said that Ukraine offered Belarus to conclude a non-aggression pact

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko sees the absolute senselessness in Kiev’s proposal to conclude a non-aggression treaty, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with TV journalist Dmitry Kiselev.

"I already mentioned it when Alexander Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] met with me in Minsk. He sees the sheer senselessness, not just senselessness, but openly provocative nature of such calls," Lavrov said.

He added that offers for such agreement are being made against the backdrop of armed members of the Belarusian opposition fighting against Russia in Ukraine. "Belarus was offered to conclude a non-aggression pact at the very moment when the Belarusian opposition is being armed, allowed to go through a military training fighting against Russia on the frontlines," he said, adding "Apparently, this is Ukraine’s unique view of the non-aggression pact."

At the end of January, Lukashenko said that Ukraine offered Belarus to conclude a non-aggression pact. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine continues to train militants who pose a potential threat to the national security of Belarus. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky later said that Ukraine did not intend to attack Belarus.
