DPR's Civic Chamber asks country's leader to call referendum on accession to Russia

"We want Russia’s border to lie between us and Ukraine", message says. The appeal's support was unanimous

DONETSK, September 19. /TASS/. The Civic Chamber of the Donetsk People’s Republic has asked the republic’s leader Denis Pushilin and the People’s Council (parliament) to urgently call a referendum on accession to Russia. The message the chamber’s leader Alexey Kofman read out on Monday says: "We want Russia’s border to lie between us and Ukraine. We want to become part of one big Motherland - Russia - once again. The people of Donbass deserve it. In connection with the aforesaid, I ask the head of the republic Denis Pushilin and the DPR People's Council to make an appropriate historic decision on holding of a referendum immediately."

According to a TASS correspondent, all members of the Civic Chamber unanimously supported the appeal.

"It will be immediately sent to the head of the republic and the People's Council. We are waiting for results," Kofman said.

Earlier on Monday, the Civic Chamber of the Lugansk People’s Republic urged LPR leader Leonid Pasechnik to call an urgent referendum on recognizing the republic as a territorial entity of Russia. TASS has a copy of the statement at its disposal. The appeal emphasizes that this step will make the territory of the republic secure and open up new opportunities for reconstruction.

According to a TASS correspondent, all members of the Civic Chamber unanimously supported the appeal.
