Media watchdog reveals violations at Russian broadcaster of BBC World News

Earlier the watchdog announced a probe into the BBC’s websites and the BBC World News channel for violation of Russian laws

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor has revealed violations at the Russian broadcaster of the BBC World News - LLC British Television, a spokesperson with the regulator told reporters on Thursday.

"We have conducted an unscheduled audit regarding the British Television, the broadcaster of the BBC World News in the Russian Federation. Certain violations have been revealed. Now we are assessing the procedural status of these violations. Later Roskomnadzor will report on the measures it is going to take," the official said.

On December 21, 2018, Roskomnadzor announced that it was launching a probe into the BBC’s websites and the BBC World News channel for violations of Russian laws following British media regulator Ofcom’s statement, which said that the RT TV channel had broken impartiality rules.

On January 9, the regulator requested the company to provide documents confirming compliance with the requirements of the law on the restriction of direct or indirect control of Russian media by foreign organizations.

From January 14 to January 31, the watchdog checked British Television for compliance with the requirements of TV and radio broadcasting.
