PARIS, November 27. /TASS/. The authorities of France will close the airspace over the Paris region during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, respected French daily Le Figaro reported on Monday.

According to the daily, the airspace over the French capital of Paris will be closed "between 7:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. local time [6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. GMT]."

The NewsInFrance.com website, cited the French Ministry of Transport as saying that: "No flights (neither takeoff, nor landing, nor overflight) will be permitted in this airspace during the mentioned time slot."

Le Figaro also reported that ships would not be allowed to traverse the river that runs through the French capital, the Seine, the week before the opening of the Summer Olympics.

"The Seine will be closed to river traffic in Paris for around seven days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26, 2024, in particular for the preparations for this unprecedented event, for the first time outside a stadium," the daily stated.

Le Figaro announced citing prefecture of the Ile-de-France region (PRIF) that the closure of the navigation on the Seine was decided "for the sake of transparency and to allow river stakeholders to anticipate this constraint."

According to the daily, "nearly 300 cruise ships pass through the capital daily, not counting maritime transport, with significant grain traffic."

Le Figaro cited its unnamed source as saying that: "The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games must take place between the Pont d'Austerlitz and the Pont d'Iena in Paris, but the perimeter of the closure of the Seine has not yet been decided."

After Tokyo hosted the Olympic flame at the 2020 Summer Games, it is set to travel to Paris for the Summer Games in 2024, and then to Los Angeles in 2028. In 2021, at the 138th IOC (the International Olympic Committee) session in Tokyo, Australia’s Brisbane was selected to host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games.

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be hosted by the French capital of Paris between July 26 and August 11.
