Boxer Nikita Tszyu wins Australian championship in super welterweight division

The athlete currently holds a professional record of eight wins, with seven of them by knockout, and no defeats

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Australian boxer Nikita Tszyu clinched the Australian super welterweight title belt with a technical knockout win against defending champion Dylan Biggs in Newcastle.

This is the first major title for Nikita Tszyu, 25, son of Russian-Australian former undisputed light-welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu. Nikita Tszyu currently boasts a career professional boxing record of eight wins, with seven of them by knockout, and no defeats.

Biggs, 21, won the Australian champion’s title in 2022 becoming the youngest boxing champion in the history of Australia. He managed to knock Tszyu down, but not out, in the opening round of their bout. Biggs now holds a professional boxing career record of 10 wins (seven by KOs) and one defeat.

"He [Biggs] was just a hurdle, a massive roadblock in my brain this whole time," Australian television Channel 9 News quoted Nikita Tszyu as saying after the bout. "As soon as I started boxing he was just standing like a wall I had to climb over and I was just looking at it."

Commenting on the punch that sent him to the canvas in the opening round, Nikita Tszyu said: "Deep waters at the very start, he caught me with a shot that I just didn’t see. He rocked me."

"That kind of punch was something to fear and something to watch out for," according to Nikita Tszyu. "He was dangerous from the very start."

Nikita Tszyu was born in Australia six years after his parents moved there from Russia in 1992. He was the winner of the Australian junior national boxing championship but put his sports career on hold at the age of 16 to focus on school. At the age of 23 Nikita decided to return to the boxing ring, making his professional debut in 2022.

Nikita Tszyu’s brother Tim is also a professional boxer, currently the reigning WBO (World Boxing Organization) light-middleweight champion.

"This moment belongs to Nikita. All glory belongs to him, I'm so proud of my brother," TV Channel 9 News quoted Tim Tszyu as saying.
