MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the team and staff as well as numerous fans of Spartak Moscow football club on its 100th anniversary, according to the leader’s congratulatory message posted on the Kremlin’s official website.
"The history of one of Russia’s most famous and titled football clubs is firmly connected to the development of football and its popularity as well as with the rise of our country’s mass movement of physical fitness," Putin said in his message.
"The history of Spartak lists numerous outstanding victories and records," he continued. "These achievements are our pride and national heritage."
Putin highlighted the great respect today’s generation of football fans have for the team’s merited veterans, including the coaches, players, and assisting staff - who laid the foundation of traditions and Spartak’s solid reputation on the playing field.
"Their path in life, professionalism and devotion to their chosen mission set a solid foundation for raising new football stars, while providing a symbol of winning and unforgettable victories for everyone, who share with their favorite team the joy of triumph and the agony of defeat and who stay loyal to the club no matter what," Putin said adding that he wished Spartak Moscow FC all the best in the future.
Throughout its century-long history, Spartak Moscow FC has been a 12-time USSR champion and ten-time champion of Russia. The team is the winner of numerous other awards and trophies. Spartak Moscow FC finished 2nd in the 2020/2021 season of the Russian Premier League (RPL).
