VILNIUS, April 1. /TASS/. A US national taken into custody in Belarus has no ties to the incident with an M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicle stationed in Lithuania as part of the US military contingent, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania said.
"He is not and cannot be linked to the events at the proving ground in Pabrade," it insisted in a statement.
During the accident of the US M88 following military drills in Lithuania, the death of three people was confirmed. The body of the fourth crew member has not yet been recovered.
According to the border service agency, Lithuanian officials made contact with this US national, who has been in the country legally over the past two weeks, on March 26, 27 and 30 in the vicinity of railway border crossings near the border with Russia, as well as near the Belarusian border.
Lithuanian media outlets have reported that the 27-year-old US citizen was apprehended in an empty railroad car in the Belarusian town of Molodechno.
