MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. An federal arrest warrant has been issued against foreign agent Ilya Yashin, pardoned by the President of Russia earlier in August and released from prison during an exchange, according to the Russian Interior Ministry website.
"Yashin Ilya Valeryevich. Wanted under a Russian Criminal Code article," the database says without disclosing the specific article.
On July 22, 2022, the Ministry of Justice included Yashin into the list of people acting as foreign agents.
In December, 2022, the Moscow’s Meschansky Court sentenced him to 8.5 years in prison for dissemination of false information about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces during the special military operation in Ukraine. He was found guilty under these charges, and the Moscow City Court later upheld this ruling. Yashin served his sentence in a penal colony in the Smolensk Region. In August, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, pardoning the former municipal deputy. This decision was made in order to bring back Russian citizens, apprehended and detained abroad.
Another criminal case has been initiated against Yashin, over charges of absence of foreign agent mark on materials, disseminated over the Internet.
