MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Authorities in the Odessa Region have renamed the village of Pervomayskoye in honor of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR).
The village of Pervomayskoye in the Razdelnaya District of the Odessa Region has been renamed Gurovskoye, according to a statement released on the GUR’s website.
Ukraine has been renaming streets and removing monuments to prominent Soviet and Russian figures since 2015, when a law on decommunization was adopted. In 2022, a new wave of fighting against every reminder of Russian and Soviet history and culture began. In March 2023, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) passed a law on decolonization, banning place names associated with Russia and the Soviet era.
