Putin grants Russian citizenship to US-born descendant of Russian empress

According to the decree, Russian citizenship has also been given to Peter Lavelle, US-born journalist and host on Russia’s English-language television channel RT

MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenship to Andrey Kalageorgi, a descendant of Russian Empress Catherine II, who was known as Catherine the Great and reigned in 1762-1796, and her court favorite Prince Grigory Potemkin, according to the relevant presidential decree, which was published on the official government website for legal documents.

The list of those individuals who have been granted Russian citizenship includes, in particular, "Andrey Leo Kalageorgi, born in the United States of America on June 1, 1967."

According to the decree, Russian citizenship has also been given to Peter Lavelle, US-born journalist and host on Russia’s English-language television channel RT; Greek photographer Kostas Asimis; British photographer Craig Speakes; and Mirela Jakupanec, a Croatian doctor working in the special military operation zone.
