Patient transported by crashed Mi-2 helicopter was in critical condition — authorities

According to the region’s governor Sergey Sitnikov, the effort to locate the crashed aircraft continued for approximately an hour and a half

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The patient, who died when a medical helicopter transporting him crashed in Central Russia’s Kostroma Region, was in critical condition, the region’s governor Sergey Sitnikov said on his Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"According to latest reports, there are four survivors: pilots and feldshers," he wrote. "Regrettably, the patient they were transporting from [the village of] Sharya is dead. The cause of his death is yet to be established, but it is known that he was being airlifted in critical condition, suffering from a heart attack."

According to the official, the effort to locate the crashed aircraft continued for approximately an hour and a half.

A Mi-2 helicopter, which was on a medevac flight from the village of Sharya to Kostroma, crashed some four kilometers of Kostroma’s Sokerkino airport on Tuesday evening. The aircraft had five people on board: two pilots, two medics and a patient. The patient died in the crash and the four others were hurt. They were evacuated from the site by helicopters. According to the emergencies services, the crash might have been caused either by a technical malfunction or a piloting error.
