Mankind must minimize its contribution to global warming, Putin says

Putin also noted that the global warming takes place twice as fast in Russia as in many other regions of the world

MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. The mankind must reduce its personal contribution to the processes of the global warming as much as possible in order to prevent Earth surface becoming like Venus, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the Direct Line Wednesday.

"When climate would change in certain regions and on the planet as a whole, and when it would approach a certain threshold - if the mankind adds even more near this threshold, if it contributes to the global warming, then irreversible processes may kick in, which may turn our planet into Venus, whose surface, as we know, is about 500 degrees Celsius hot," he said.

"Of course, we must do everything in order to minimize our contribution to what happens in the global sphere, in the universe in general," the President noted. "We are a part of this universe. Whatever we can influence, we should."

Putin also noted that the global warming takes place twice as fast in Russia as in many other regions of the world.

"Not only in Russia alone, but across this entire latitude, including the Scandinavian states," the head of state underscored.
