Putin says COVID-19 immunization rates should reach 60% in Russia

The number of Russians who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 should be 118 million, not 18 million, as it is now, the president noted

MOSCOW, June 12. /TASS/. Coronavirus immunization rates should reach at least 60% in Russia, including those who have survived COVID-19, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the winners of state prizes in the Kremlin on Saturday.

During the talk, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk pointed out that the Russian Orthodox Church supports the need for more active vaccination in the country, emphasizing that the number of Russians who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 should be 118 million, not 18 million, as it is now.

"Maybe, 118 million is not necessary," Putin said in response.

"We need 60% immune [people], including those who have had the disease, and [even] without symptoms," the president said.
