ST. PETERSBURG, February 19. /TASS/. The attack against the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) looks like steps coordinated with European countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters.
"If looking purely formally, it looks like some coordination actions. However, I do not want to believe in that. I think this is incidental. Europeans are merely [going] their own way and do not pay attention to what is taking place, the Russian leader said. "Nevertheless, formally, if we look at developments, it seems like some coordination," he added.
CPC had no Russian air defense systems because it is an international facility, Putin said.
"This [CPC] site did not have and until now does not have air defense means, Russian air defense systems. It is clear, why, we assumed this cannot be a target for an attack. This is, strictly speaking, not a Russian facility, it is the international energy infrastructural facility," the president added.
