OSCE special envoy for Ukraine intends to deepen split in Europe — Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. The statements of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) special representative for Ukraine, Petr Maresh, regarding the European Union (EU) and NATO indicate his intention to further deepen the division in Europe, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Maresh stated he aimed to coordinate Kiev's preparations "for future partnership and membership" in the EU and NATO.

"The organization, which was once founded on the inviolable rule of consensus, bypasses the opinions of Russia and Belarus and ‘appoints’ a certain person simply at its discretion," the diplomat noted. "This quasi-OSCE representative is not engaged in harmonizing the relations of the organization's member states, but in exacerbating the split in the European space and supporting militaristic bloc structures, which do not even include half of the OSCE member states," she added.

Zakharova compared Maresh to an environmentalist who "claimed he would pour oil refinery waste into the sea" and to a firefighter who "promised not to stop setting fires." "I think this encapsulates the essence of what the OSCE has become," the spokeswoman stated.

The diplomat pointed out that in the OSCE acronym, the letters "S" and "C" stand for "security" and "cooperation." "It seems that the West, in a fit of 'new normalcy,' is attempting to redefine them as 'craziness' and 'suicidality,'" Zakharova concluded.
