Russia not introducing death penalty even in conditions of special operation — Putin

The Russian leader stressed that even in the conditions of combat, and "rather serious ones," the authorities are not making this move

MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. Russian authorities are not introducing the death penalty even in the conditions of the special military operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.

"What reality do we live in? There is the special military operation underway. And that said, we are not introducing the death penalty at all. Even though, I assure you, and you are most likely aware of this, that a significant number of our citizens and political activists are constantly bringing this issue up," the Russian leader noted.

Putin stressed that even in the conditions of combat, and "rather serious ones," the authorities are not making this move. "On the contrary, we are making a number of decisions directed at enhancing the humanity of our justice system. As I have already said, we are reducing the number of people in detention facilities and so on," the president pointed out.
