Germans have chance to ask their government about top brass’ leaked talk

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that the German government bodies’ comments regarding the scandalous audio tape came neither from their official spokespeople nor as press releases, but as media reports that were citing anonymous sources and were "monstrously versatile"

MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. German citizens have a chance to engage in direct dialogue with their government concerning the German military officers’ leaked conversation and about where their country is heading and who is leading it, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

The diplomat pointed out that the German government bodies’ comments regarding the scandalous audio tape came neither from their official spokespeople nor as press releases, but as media reports that were citing anonymous sources and were "monstrously versatile."

"Thus, [German Chancellor] Olaf Scholz promises to look into it, whereas Roderich Kiesewetter, deputy chair of the Bundestag’s Parliamentary Oversight Panel, sees nothing wrong in the failure of the German counterintelligence and military agencies," she pointed out.

"I think that the Germans have a unique chance now to save themselves - to pull this string and get the official authorities to talk directly about what is going on in Germany, what this conversation is about, and about who is leading the country and where," the diplomat said.

Zakharova emphasized that the German authorities’ fragmented reactions showed the lack of united power in the country.

"The elites, the authorities and the people have neither responsibility before one another nor feedback. This is overt evidence that there is no democracy," she added.

"There is a force within Germany’s state body, which is invisible (and unknowable) to a German voter and unrelated to the electoral system, and which is now ruling in Germany. Germans write about schattenstaat - ‘deep state’. But all materials on this issue are pessimized, deleted and censored, while the authors are labeled conspiracy theorists."

The diplomat went on to say that the German media has the only purpose to exist, which is "to shore up an illusion of public democracy."

"All the information is twisted, its release is orchestrated, and the authorities are freed from responsibility," Zakharova concluded.

German top brass’ talk

On March 1, RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said that on the very day that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave assurances that NATO was not and would not be directly involved in the Ukraine conflict, Germany’s top brass was in fact mulling the option of attacking the Crimean Bridge in a way that would have no repercussions for Berlin by giving it the cover of plausible deniability. Simonyan said she had a corroborating audio recording in her possession and later released the transcript of the leaked conversation, which indicates that the officers were discussing how much destruction Germany’s Taurus long-range missiles could cause to the Crimean Bridge as well as details of preparations for such an attack.

On March 2, Germany’s Defense Ministry confirmed that communications within the air force about plans to attack the Crimean Bridge had been intercepted.
