NATO’s foray against Russia may destabilize military-political crisis in Europe — diplomat

Alexander Grushko recalled that the North Atlantic Alliance labeled Russia as "the most significant and direct threat" in its strategic concept that was approved at the Madrid summit last year

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. NATO’s aggression toward Russia risks fully aggravating the military-political situation in Europe, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said in an interview with kp.ru.

"There is no discussing the strengthening of security architecture without taking into account Russia’s interests. The hostile attitude toward our country may fully destabilize the military-political situation in Europe," he warned.

The senior Russian diplomat recalled that the North Atlantic Alliance labeled Russia as "the most significant and direct threat" in its strategic concept that was approved at the Madrid summit last year. "NATO plans to stick to this confrontational logic for at least the next decade, throughout the life of this doctrine," Grushko said. "It will govern the military planning which would make Europeans’ reliance on the United States even stronger, and not only in security," he added.

While NATO member countries located near the front line insist that NATO deploy more troops, mostly US ones, on their territory, when Western Europe will realize that this is a dead-end path is anyone’s guess, the diplomat maintained.

According to Grushko, NATO’s aggressive moves toward Russia "made continuing with 'business as usual' impossible." The bloc refused to join the collective efforts toward the provision of global and European security," he concluded.
