Russian peacekeepers to fully support restoration of peaceful life in Karabakh - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said about it at the General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly

UNITED NATIONS, September 23. /TASS/. Russia’s peacekeeping mission will fully support the restoration of peaceful life in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"Now that the authorities in Yerevan and Baku have resolved the issue of recognizing the two countries’ sovereignty, the time has come to leave in peace, restore peaceful life and build trust. The Russian peacekeeping contingent will fully support this process," he pointed out.

Lavrov noted that "Brussels is now imposing its mediation services on Azerbaijan and Armenia, destabilizing the South Caucasus together with Washington." He also emphasized that the continued worsening of the situation in Kosovo caused serious concern. "Weapons supplies to the Kosovars and NATO’s attempts to facilitate the creation of an army are in flagrant breach of the UN Security Council's fundamental Resolution 1244," Lavrov said. He added that "the whole world can see that a sad situation similar to that of the Minsk Agreements on Ukraine is now unfolding in the Balkans." He specified that under those agreements, the Donbass republics were supposed to get special status but Kiev "openly sabotaged" the implementation of the accords "with the West’s support."

"Similarly, the EU is now unwilling to make its Kosovo minions to implement the 2013 agreements between Belgrade and Pristina on the creation of the Kosovo Community of Serb Municipalities, which would have special rights in terms of their language and traditions. In both cases, the EU acted as a guarantor of the agreements and it seems that they will share the same fate," the Russian foreign minister concluded.
