HANOI, April 7. /TASS/. Russia is ready to carry out joint research with Vietnam at its research stations in the Arctic, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said on Friday when meeting with the team of the Russia-Vietnam Tropical Research and Technology Center.

"We do not merely intend to continue research in Vietnam, in climatic conditions Russia does not have, but are also ready to host our Vietnamese counterparts at our Arctic stations," the official said. Chernyshenko gave high praise to operations at the Tropical Center, which have been going on for three and a half decades already. "The Tropical Center at present is a versatile and multidisciplinary research institution that is developing rapidly: new facilities are being built here and modern equipment is being procured," the deputy prime minister said.

The Russian side is ready to invest in the Tropical Center outfit with modern instruments and equipment and by creating new joint laboratories on such current areas of studies as biological and chemical security, specifically the dioxin problem, climate change and environmental protection, including marine areas, he added.

The Tropical Center was established in 1987 under an intergovernmental agreement between the two countries.
