Kakhovka HPP designed to withstand nuclear strike, resists Kiev’s shelling — authorities

"However, something built with hands can be destroyed with these hands, if they are governed by an ill brain," Vladimir Leontyev said

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. The Kakhovka Hydro Power Plant (HPP) in the Kherson Region has the designed potential to withstand a nuclear strike and thus resists the Ukrainian army’s shelling, Head of the Novaya Kakhovka City Administration Vladimir Leontyev said on Tuesday.

The Kakhovka HPP is a completely reliable structure, he stressed.

"The Kakhovka Hydro Power Plant was built at the time when a nuclear war risk already existed and that is why its construction proceeded taking into account these potential strikes," Leontyev said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 television channel.

"It is obvious that this is an absolutely reliable structure. However, something built with hands can be destroyed with these hands, if they are governed by an ill brain. Obviously, such attempts at destruction can take place," he added.

The Kakhovka HPP is located 5 km from Novaya Kakhovka. The Ukrainian military has been periodically shelling communities in the Kherson Region and the Kakhovka HPP.
