Speaker of Russian parliament’s upper house to attend G20 meeting in Indonesia

On October 5-7, a delegation of the Russian parliament led by Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko will visit the Republic of Indonesia

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the Russian parliament’s upper chamber, the Federation Council, will visit Indonesia to attend the eighth conference of G20 parliament heads, the Federation Council’s press service has said.

"On October 5-7, a delegation of the Russian parliament led by Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko will visit the Republic of Indonesia," the press service said. "Matviyenko will participate in the work of the eighth summit of G20 parliament speakers in Jakarta, deliver a speech during a session on food and energy security and environmental challenges and participate in a discussion devoted to social integration, gender equality and broadening of women’s rights and opportunities," the press service said.

She is scheduled to meet with senior Indonesian officials and lawmakers, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani and Speaker of the Regional Representative Council La Nyalla Mattalitti. She will also held a series of other bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.

The Russian parliamentary delegation also includes Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev, State Duma (lower house) Deputy Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy, Chair of the Federation Council’s Committee on Science, Education and Culture Liliya Gumerova and First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee Vladimir Dzhabarov.

The eighth conference of G20 parliament speakers was organized in the run-up to the G8 summit. Its agenda includes issues of sustainable development, green economy, food and energy security, economic challenges, efficient legislative work, viable democracies, social integration, gender equality and women’s rights.
