Russia, Armenia set to maintain high cooperation levels in all areas, Lavrov vows

According to Sergey Lavrov, the next session of an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, as well as regional and international forums, would take place later in the year

YEREVAN, June 9. /TASS/. Moscow and Yerevan are determined to contribute to maintaining high cooperation rates in all areas, particularly in trade, economy and the humanitarian field, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at talks with Armenian top diplomat Ararat Mirzoyan on Thursday.

"We have agreed to contribute to maintaining high cooperation rates in all areas in every possible way," he noted.

According to Lavrov, the next session of an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, as well as regional and international forums, would take place later in the year. The Russian chief diplomat pointed out that Moscow and Yerevan intended to boost energy cooperation, including in the nuclear energy sector, ore mining, as well as in the fields of transport, logistics and hi-tech.

Lavrov added that the two countries also planned to encourage the practice of business missions and business forums. "Russia remains Armenia’s leading trade partner and economic investor. Despite a decline caused by the coronavirus pandemic, we managed to return to the trajectory of growth and rising cooperation," the Russian top diplomat stressed.

Russia and Armenia also seek to boost humanitarian cooperation, preserving a common educational, research and linguistic space. "In accordance with the wishes of our Armenian friends, we are working to increase the number of Russian language schools, assist efforts to provide advanced training to Armenia’s Russian language teachers and increase quotas for Armenian citizens who want to study in Russian universities," Lavrov specified.
