Russia expects US response on cyber security contacts — Security Council official

"We have outlined the problem issues, and we share stance that there is a need to solve these problems but now the ball is in the US’ court," Sergey Boiko noted

KRASNODAR, June 23. /TASS/. Russia expects a US response to its proposals on dialogue in the cyber security field and that particular details on the venue and timeframe of contacts will be discussed via diplomatic contacts, a Russian Security Council official, Sergey Boiko, told TASS.

"Certainly, contacts are planned, we have put forward our proposals on this issue, President [Vladimir Putin] voiced our readiness and now we are waiting for counter-proposals from our partners. We are ready, and we will see in the near future whether they are ready," Boiko, who heads the cyber security department, said on the sidelines of the international conference Kuban CSC 2021 held in southern Russia’s Krasnodar.

The official commented on a question if the Russian Security Council planned contacts with the US on cyber security issues as a follow-up to the agreements reached at the Russian-US summit in Geneva on June 16.

Boiko expects that "particular proposals on the venue and timeframe of the meeting and the agenda will be handed over via diplomatic channels". "We have outlined the problem issues, and we share stance that there is a need to solve these problems but now the ball is in the US’ court," he stressed.

Speaking at his press conference after the talks with US President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow and Washington could agree on the rules of conduct in the fields of strategic stability, cyber security and regional conflicts.
