MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Hurricane-force winds with gusts of up to 33-35 meters per second are forecast for the Kuril Islands on the night of November 8, Marina Makarova, a leading specialist at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, told TASS.
"Winds of 25-30 m/s and gusts of 33-35 m/s are expected in the Yuzhno-Kurilsky and Kurilsky districts during the day on November 7," the meteorologist said.
Precipitation and strong winds are expected across the islands on November 7-8, Makarova said. On the night of November 8, gusts could reach hurricane-force levels. She noted that the deteriorating weather is linked to a cyclone moving across the island region.
"The center of the cyclone will already be located in the southern Sea of Okhotsk, east of Sakhalin, and it will move out across the Kurils and southern Kamchatka into the Pacific Ocean," she added.
