Earthquake of 4.6 magnitude hits spa towns in North Caucasus

There were no reports about destruction or casualties

STAVROPOL, April 1. /TASS/. A 4.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the Russian spa town of Mineralnye Vody, located on the northern edge of the Caucasus Mountains, on Saturday evening, a local senior official said.

"According to the unified dispatcher service, there was an earthquake of 4.6 magnitude. The foothills were the closest to the epicenter. I instructed the services to carry out a visual inspection of the district’s vital facilities," Nikolay Bondarenko, head of the Predgorye municipal district, wrote on his Telegram channel.

The 4.3 magnitude was felt in the spa cities of Pyatigorsk and Essentuky, their mayors, Dmitry Voroshilov and Alexander Nekristov respectively, wrote on Telegram.

There were no reports about destruction or casualties, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s branch for the Stavropol Region told reporters.

"On April 1, a seismic event of 4.6 magnitude was recorded in the Predgorye Municipal District at a depth of 15 kilometers, which was felt in the Sovetsky and Georgievsky urban settlements as well as in Zheleznovodsk, Pyatigorsk and Kislovodsk. There are no casualties or destruction. All vital services are operating as usual," the press service said in a statement.
