MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. The wildfire situation in Russia’s Kurgan Region has been brought under control, and the blazes are no longer threatening populated areas, the Emergencies Ministry said Thursday.
"The situation has stabilized. Populated areas in the Kurgan Region are in no danger. The forest fires have been contained, and the Emergencies Ministry’s aircraft are continuing to extinguish them," the ministry’s press service told TASS.
Severe wildfires engulfed the region, located where the Urals and Siberia meet, on May 10. Strong winds were stoking the blazes, bringing them closer to populated areas. More than 10 localities were under threat. Some 350 people had to be evacuated.
