LONDON, May 22. /TASS/. The profit of the messaging platform Telegram, whose number of active users has surpassed 1 bln, amounted to $540 mln last year. This result is partly attributed to a rise in paid subscriptions and the growth of cryptocurrency assets, the Financial Times (FT) reported, citing internal company documents.
According to the documents, Telegram’s revenue reached $1.4 bln in 2024. Nearly half of this amount was derived, in the company’s wording, from "partnerships and ecosystems." Over $250 mln came from advertising, while $292 mln was generated from premium subscriptions. In 2025, the company expects to reach $2 bln in revenue and increase its profit to $720 mln.
Experts familiar with the matter noted that the revenue was partially shared with prospective sponsors ahead of Telegram’s issuance of bonds totaling approximately $1.5 bln. Over the past four years, the messenger has issued securities amounting to $2.4 bln in total.
Telegram’s Chief Investment Officer John Hyman stated that the company had met all of its financial targets. He did not rule out the possibility of an initial public offering (IPO) if market conditions become more favorable. As previously reported, the company’s IPO ambitions were impacted by the arrest and indictment of Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov in France.
