MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Russia and Guinea-Bissau have signed a memorandum on cooperation in the area of exploration and subsoil use, which may enable the two countries to launch joint geological projects, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov said.
The memorandum was signed by Kozlov and Minister of Natural Resources of Guinea-Bissau Malam Sambu. An official delegation from Guinea-Bissau headed by the country’s president, Umaro Cissoko Embalo, arrived in Moscow on February 25.
Guinea-Bissau is underexplored from the viewpoint of geology, the Russian minister said, adding that phosphates and bauxites fields could be discovered in the African country. Russian exploration and mining companies are ready to provide assistance in development of programs and geological exploration in Guinea-Bissau both on hard commercial minerals and hydrocarbons, he noted.
"Russia and Guinea-Bissau entered into an interagency memorandum, which will enable us to help colleagues increase the level of management of the fund of mineral resources, meaning to launch joint geological projects," Kozlov was quoted as saying by the ministry’s press service.
