Hainan's Sanya records hike in number of tourists from Russia

According to Hainan Daily, the increase is a result of the authorities' efforts to promote the city internationally

HAIKOU /China/, July 13. /TASS/. The resort city of Sanya in Hainan province has recorded a sharp increase in the flow of tourists from Russia in 2024, Hainan Daily reported.

The paper noted that the list of the most popular keywords of the Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo this week included "Russians flood Sanya" and "Russian tourists praise Sanya". It is noted that guests from the Russian Federation prefer not only beach vacations, but also health tourism, including interest in traditional medicine and physiotherapy.

The increase in the number of visitors from Russia was noted to have contributed to the measures taken by the authorities to promote Sanya in the international arena. In order to attract more Russians and provide them with real comfort, the provincial authorities are constantly working with tour operators to improve the quality and variety of services. Bilingual signs in Chinese and Russian have appeared in many places.

According to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, 422 thousand foreign tourists visited the province in January-May - 3.8 times more than in the same period last year. The flow of Russians increased 13 times, up to 39 thousand people. Most of them come to Sanya. According to official estimates, Russia is the province's main source of inbound tourism.
