HAIKOU /China/, July 13. /TASS/. A new international air cargo route has been launched between Haikou (Hainan), Incheon (South Korea) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), the Nanguo Metropolis Daily writes.

The flight will be operated by Boeing B737-800SF airplanes five times a week: on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. As the publication notes, the first such flight delivered 10 tonnes of cargo.

The stopover at Meilan International Airport will allow Hainan Free Port to play the role of an important cargo hub between China, South Korea and Malaysia.

This is the second flight opened in Hainan province under the Fifth Freedom of the Air - it gives airlines the right to carry passengers and cargo from one foreign country to another when flying into their own country. The first such route in Hainan was the Haikou-Singapore-Jakarta flight.

The development of air transportation plays an important role in the implementation of the project to build a free trade port in Hainan. Its program was presented in June 2020. It provides for turning the island into a special customs zone. The government expects to complete the free port by 2025, by which time the island should have a system to ensure free trade and investment.

By 2035, the Freeport and its model will have reached a more mature stage. By that time, Hainan is expected to ensure the freedom of trade and investment, cross-border capital movement, entry and exit of people, and cargo transportation.
